I think I've found my new favorite donut place. Rocket Donuts in downtown Bellingham is just a lot of fun. My bismark was delicious, my latte was yummy, my company was great and the decor was original.

Who would have thought donuts and 50s sci-fi? Not me. And why donuts and 50s sci-fi? Their answer "Why not?" Well...that's good enough for me.

Mr. Harley: "Your impatience is quite understandable."

Klaatu: "I'm impatient with stupidity. My people have learned to live without it."
Mr. Harley: "I'm afraid my people haven't. I'm very sorry... I wish it were otherwise."

Klaatu: "I'm worried about Gort. I'm afraid of what he might do if anything should happen to me."
Helen: "Gort? But he's a robot. Without you, what could he do?"

All quotes are from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). Now doesn't reading those make you want to go watch it? My thought is to watch the original...I mean really...50s sci-fi? You just can't recreate that! Or maybe watch both - Keanu Reeves does make a good cheesy movie.

sunny Sunday!

Good afternoon on this sunny Sunday. It looks like it is going to be another scorcher.

What a week this has been. I have been here (here being my sister’s house, not my house) for most of the past week. In fact I have spent the past two nights here while the rest of the family is in Eastern Washington (talk about HOT)...mom & dad at a family shin-dig in Moses Lake and Alex at the Tom Petty concert (lucky boy!).

I did do a stint at the fair, a four-hour shift for the CHIPS (Child ID) booth on Friday night. I went two hours early and saw the photos, quilts, art, collections, 4-H Science and of course animals. We had to see Max’s Petunia - she (and Max) is a champion after all and I would have hated not to see her. Yay Max & Petunia! I ate very little fair food - just an Elephant Ear and shared a lemonade with Troy. No fair detox for me this year (but I will be thinking of Tami and all the others as they make their way through this next week...)!

But most of the week I have been with my sister - fetching medicine, getting food (or something resembling food), watching t.v. and movies, hanging out. I am very impressed - she is an excellent patient - in good spirits (most of the time), not demanding, requires very little actually. My guys have been very supportive this past week understanding my need to help my sister. Archer doesn’t really like having his parents gone yet he has complained very little and is happy that someone is helping out his fabulous aunt (he adores her...he really, really does!). I think I can get him to come with me tomorrow - he had a hard time seeing her post surgery - he didn’t like thinking she was in pain...Anyway, she looks much better - is up and around, talking, eating soft food. I think he can handle it. Once again thank you ALL for your well wishes - she is off on an amazing recovery!

Last night we watched Into the Wild. We both enjoyed the movie found it very interesting, especially knowing it was a true story. I think it was a testament to our real need for human relationships. What a brave young man. Have you seen this? Have you read the book? I am compelled to get the book now to get even more information. If you have read the book please let me know what you thought of it. (p.s. I got the movie at our public library. I had to wait a bit, but what a wonderful resource for those movies that you don’t need right now!)

That is it for now. I have pictures from the fair on my camera but not enough will to do all that is necessary on an unfamiliar computer to post them...so you just get my words.

You will learn something

I went with Çheryl to see Fools Gold yesterday. It is totally worth every penny. Oscar worthy we are sure of it.

And the best thing is...you will learn something...Now hear me out. You may not think of this as a smart, learning movie, but it it.

You will learn if the whole sea is connected? Connected to what? Better watch.
You will learn that some people can't help being dumb and some people can.
You will learn how not to go down a blow hole (and more importantly what will happen if you do it incorrectly).
You will learn how to punch a guy with a cricket paddle...among other things.

And much much more... Cheryl and I posing with our miniature boyfriend...Isn't it great how we shrunk him up then we can just stick him in a pocket!

Thank you friends for your kind words. Yesterday was a challenge. Many days are a challenge. Today was challenging, yet a much better day than yesterday. Your words of empathy, kindness, and encouragement were (was) happily received.

Looking forward to this weekend. It is full and is looking to be fantastic!

Saturday - From 12:30 - 4:00 p.m. there will be a free coffee/chocolate tasting at the Lynden Pioneer Museum. If you are close by you should come by for a taste of Starbucks and some chocolate from the new Lynden Chocolate Shop. What is not to love? If you are around town stop by the museum, say hi to my beautiful cousin, Lorinda & I, and enjoy a little cuppa joe & some awesome chocolate.

My brother, John, and my gorgeous nephew, Nicholas, are at mom's for the weekend. After the coffee/chocolate day I will go to mom's for a visit. I haven't seen Nick since Christmas and John since Nick's 2nd birthday party in August! John was in Germany for four months serving our country (he spent his 40th birthday there- so not only have I not seen him for six months he got OLD in that time - haha).

Sunday - Oh the beauty of Sunday. My friend Cheryl and I will be going to see our boyfriend, Matthew, in his new movie Fool's Gold. While the movie may not have received good review (dumb newspaper) I don't think they took into account the review of Matthew himself. Can't wait for that one!

Those are the plans. My guys? I don't know - video games, air soft, boy stuff.
